Data Analyst - Catastrophe Risk Modeling

Flood Hazard and Risk Analysis

Santiago Vasquez Osorio is a risk modeler at RED. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering (2018) at the Universidad Central in Bogota, Colombia. He then continued his studies in environmental engineering, this time focusing on the fields of hydrogeology and water resources management at the Technical University of Munich - TUM, from where he obtained his M.Sc. in 2020.

During his master’s studies, he set up multiple hydrological models, including one for his master’s thesis, where he evaluated the interactions between surface and groundwater. Moreover, He also was a tutor at the Chair of Hydrogeology at TUM where he helped freshman students build their hydrological models. Furthermore, he worked closely with a Dutch start-up setting a statistical algorithm aimed to detect outliers in high-resolution groundwater level data.

Finally, he joined the Flood Risk Area at RED shortly after finishing his studies at TUM.
